Amid the mounting tension in the Kashmir valley and weakening of bilateral ties with neighbouring country Pakistan as an aftermath of abrogation of Article 370 and 35A, this move comes as an effort to ensure the existence of peace in the valley.
This decision was taken following the meeting between the Defence Minister and Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army, General Bipin Rawat. As per reports the meeting was held as part of the governmental efforts to ensure peace prevails in the valley whereby the General Rwat had briefed the Defence Minister regarding the situation in Kashmir and the Indo-Pak border.
Previously the Army Chief had also visited Kashmir to observe the situation. Prior to that NSA (National Security Advisor) Ajit Doval had also gone on a two-day review visit to Jammu and Kashmir.
NSA Doval's visit to J&K
During his visit, Ajit Doval had also met Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik at the Raj Bhavan in Srinagar. The NSA and the Governor had discussed the prevailing external and internal security situation in J&K, as per the tweet shared by news agency ANI. Both of them had also stressed on the need for ensuring the safety of the people and constant alertness, preparedness, and synergy among various departments.
Ahead of his visit to Jammu and Kashmir, NSA Ajit Doval had also briefed Home Minister Amit Shah in a high-level meeting which was also attended by Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba and other top security officials.
Though normalcy prevails in Jammu and Kashmir, the Minister's decision to procure these missiles thereby incurring huge defence spending comes as a step to ensure the safety and well-being of the civilians of the much threatened Kashmir.
