Rajput community plays Garba with swords in Gujarat's Bharuch

With the Navratri festival progressing in India, the way Garba is being performed has also evolved. In a video doing rounds on social media, people from the Rajput community in Bharuch, Gujarat, has been seen playing Garba with swords.

Earlier on Friday, people in Surat celebrated Navratri by performing Garba Raas in a unique way — by wearing a mask of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Another video surfaced this Navratri that showed a group of people performing Garba at the Ahmedabad Airport at 3 am. Let alone passengers, the airport staff were also seen performing Garba. In a similar incident, a group of people was seen performing Garba at the VR mall in Surat on September 30. This was a dance group from a Garba class who was trying to create awareness about road safety.

Apart from this, the youngsters in Surat were also seen making tattoos on their bodies to raise awareness on various social issues during Navratri. People have been visiting tattoo studios to get themselves painted with tattoos on social issues such as article 370 or that of the Chandrayaan-2.

What is Navratri?

Navratri, which means ‘Nine-nights’ in Sanskrit, is a nine-day festival that is famous in various parts of India and is celebrated by Hindus all over the country. It is celebrated with great energy and enthusiasm and is a colourful festival in which nine forms of Goddess Durga are worshipped.

There are four types of Navratri that take place in a year. However, out of these four Navratris in a year, only two — namely Chaitra Navratri and Sharad Navratri — are celebrated widely. People in different parts of the country celebrate this festival according to their customs. The festival, apart from its energetic celebrations, is also famous for the fasts that people observe as a measure of good luck and health.
