Dussehra is when people celebrate the victory of good over evil. To symbolise that victory, an effigy of the demon king Ravan is burnt every year during the Ravan Dahan. Mumbai has always had some of the biggest Ravan Dahans in the country. Here are three of the best and biggest Ravan Dahans in Mumbai that you should not miss.

Azad Maidan

The Azad Maidan is a large sports ground near the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Station. The Azad Maidan hosts several sports events as well as rallies. However, every Dussera they celebrate the festival with one of the biggest Ravan Dahan in the entire city of Mumbai. If you have never witnessed the Azad Maidan Ravan Dahan, then you should check it out this Dussehra, as it is an amazing sight to behold. There will be two Ravan Dahans taking place at the same time. The Shree Maharashtra Ram Leela Mandal is considered to be the original and oldest while the newer one is headed by the  Sahitya Kala Manch. The Shree Maharashtra Ram Leela Mandal version is the only Ravan Dahan where the effigy is not burnt.

Shivaji Raje Sports Ground

The Ravan Dahan of Shivaji Raje Sports Ground is one of the most popular Ravan Dahan in the city. The event is handled by Ramlila Prachar Samiti. The main attraction of this version is the performances conducted by a theatre troupe that takes place before the effigy is burnt. The Shivaji Raje Sports Ground is located in Malad and is one of the must-watch Ravan Dahan of Mumbai.

Girgaon Chowpatty

This popular Ravan Dahan is highly enjoyable. Not only because of the event itself is conducted well but also because it takes place on a beach. People often arrive at the location before time to enjoy a day at the beach followed by an amazing Ravan Dahan at night. The Girgaon Chowpatty is also located near Marine Drive, which is a popular location of Mumbai.

Here are the biggest and most popular Ravan Dahans of Mumbai. All three will take place on October 8, 2019, which will be the tenth day of Dussehra. It is unlikely that someone can visit and enjoy all three events on the same day. But any of them will give you a good experience of how Ravan Dahan is celebrated in Mumbai.
