With an ongoing and more aggressive push towards semiconductors, Semicon India 2023 was inaugurated by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which will be focused on several major players of semiconductors who will come together in Gandhinagar for knowledge sharing, networking etc.

Semicon India 2023 which has been inaugurated, saw participation across globe with a rich presence of several countries and major players of semiconductors to share knowledge. Players like Semicond India, AMD, Micron Technology, were present at the inaugural session. While addressing the inauguration session, Ashwini Vaishnaw also said, "Semiconductors are a mother industry from which various other technologies can be developed and powered. This investment and push towards semiconductors will help with several industries flourishing as a result in the country."

In a major push to semiconductors to be established in Gujarat, there have been several statements made by the PM. On the second day of the two-day visit to his home state, Anil Aggrawal of Vedanta said, "We don't need much for innovation. You give a person a laptop, a smart phone and they will generate income themselves. But these semiconductors are the future for advancement in the technology." Similarly, Ajit Manocha, President and CEO, SEMI at Semicond India, said, "Throughout my career I have been asked whether India is ready to be part of global semiconductor industry. Today I can say the journey has begun. For the first time, geopolitics, domestic policies and private sector capacity are aligned in India’s favour to become player in semiconductor production. The current semiconductor industry is likely to grow to $1 trillion industry. India would be the next powerhouse in semiconductors in Asia."

While addressing the gathering the prime minister once again reiterated, "The time is now' for the semiconductor industry and the 'time is now ' for Indian youth to do something in that technology. "Earlier people used to say, 'Why to invest' (in semiconductors') and now they say, 'who not invest'?", The PM said from the dais.  He also stated that Indian population and youth specifically is 'very smart' and while ending his address, the PM said, "the time is right now".

Prabhu Raja, President Semiconductor Products Group at Applied Materials at Semicon India- "With strong vision of PM Modi to develop manufacturing, India is poised to play an important role in global semiconductor industry. We firmly believe this is India’s time to shine. No company or country can overcome challenges in the sector alone. It’s time for collaborative partnership in this sector. This new collaborative model can provide us to be a catalyst in the sector. I would like to thank you for considering us a valuable partner in India’s semiconductor vision.

Sanjay Mehrotra, CEO, Micron Technology at Semicond India

I thank PM Modi for your vision to make India a global hub for semiconductors. Micron is committed to build a semiconductor assembly and test facility in Gujarat. We estimate that our project in Gujarat will create nearly 5000 direct jobs and additional 15,000 jobs in the community. We are hopeful that this investment will help catalyze other investments in the sector. Prime Minister your support for the semiconductor industry and workforce development has fostered an environment of innovation and business growth that is already creating strong results. Digital India and Make in India are creating a truly transformative energy that will continue to drive positive progress.
