Tejas Express passengers to receive ₹25 lakh free travel insurance

Passengers travelling on IRCTC's Delhi-Lucknow Tejas Express will get a free rail travel insurance of ₹25 lakh, will also have access to the premium lounge.

Passengers travelling on IRCTC's Delhi-Lucknow Tejas Express will be eligible to receive a free rail travel insurance worth ₹25 lakh. Furthermore, the additional benefits on offer to those travelling on the Tejas Express include their luggage being ferried from their homes to their respective seats at a cost and will even have exclusive lounges to relax. These benefits are as per the plans drafted by the railway subsidiary. The trains will commence from the month of October 2019. The Delhi-Lucknow and Mumbai-Ahmedabad Tejas Express trains will be the first trains to be run by the IRCTC, a railway subsidiary, becoming test cases for Indian Railways' move to hand over certain trains to private operators.

Passengers to get ₹25 lakh free rail travel insurance

"Passengers of IRCTC's Delhi-Lucknow Tejas Express to get free ₹25 lakh rail travel insurance. The passengers of this train will also be given the facility of using retiring rooms at Lucknow junction station and executive lounge at New Delhi Railway station and lounge for meetings on-demand," a document enumerating the operational details of the train said. No concessions, privileges or duty passes will be allowed on these trains. Also, children above the age of 5 will be charged full fare. "There will be no facility of tatkal quota. Five seats each will be reserved for foreign tourists in Executive Class and AC Chair car," it said.

Tejas Express capable of running at a speed of 200 kmph

Former RCF General Manager R P Nibaria had been previously said that the Tejas Express is capable of running at a speed of 200 kmph but due to constraints related to rail tracks, it runs at a speed of 160 kmph. He had further added that the Tejas Express will be fitted with an ‘automatic entrance plug door’ which provides better sound and heat insulation, adding that doors installed in the entire rake would be controlled by a guard panel.

The onboard the luxury chair car has been fitted with 9-inch LCD screens with touch screen control on the back of every seat and a personalised infotainment system along with USB charging facility. The other features include high comfortable and adjustable e-leather upholster, redesigned armrest and adequate legroom. RP Nibaria had previously stated that the cost of each is ₹3.25 crore and a coach is manufactured within 6 months.
