'They fought gallantly': Ladakh L-G pays homage to 3 officers martyred in Anantnag

Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier BD Mishra (Retired) on Thursday paid homage to three security officers, including two Indian Army soldiers and a police official, who attained martyrdom in action during an encounter with terrorists near Garol forest in Anantnag of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, September 13. 

"I sincerely pay homage to these three Bavehearts - two from the 19 Rashtriya Rifles of the Army, and one from the Jammu and Kashmir Police. They attained martyrdom while fighting the enemies of the nation, the terrorists. They fought gallantly," he said.   

"I salute the martyred officers in Jammu and Kashmir. They gave their best to the nation through their commendable service and fought fearlessly to defend the nation," said the Ladakh Governor adding that the country owes them all gratitude possible. 

J-K encounter: 4 security officers martyred

Two Indian Army officers and a police officer were killed in an encounter with terrorists in Anantnag, while a rifleman Ravi laid down his life in the line of duty in Rajouri of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. Besides, six-year-old Army dog Kent was also killed in the firing by the militants. 

The officers who were injured and later succumbed to their injuries at the army’s base hospital were identified as Colonel Manpreet Singh, who was commanding 19 Rashtriya Rifles Battalion, Major Ashish Dhonak of 19 RR and J&K Police DSP Humayun Bhat, who was recently posted in the area of encounter. This is said to be the most fatal attack on the security forces in the valley this year despite cases of encounters having come down. 

The suspicious Resistance Front, said to be a group of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the attack on Indian security officials. Authorities have suspected that the same group of terrorists had killed three jawans on August 4.
