TNSDMA Secy on Sujith's death: 'Steps on such incidents will be taken'
Just a day after two-year-old Sujith Wilson died, the TNSDMA secretary J Radhakrishnan assured that they will take requisite measures to avoid such incidents
Just a day after two-year-old Sujith Wilson died after being stuck in a borewell for over 80 hours in Trichy, Tamil Nadu State Disaster Management Authority (TNSDMA) on Wednesday assured that they will take requisite measures to avoid such incidents in the future. Sujith Wilson who was playing at his home at Nadukattupetti village of Manapparai taluka in Trichy district in Tamil Nadu fell into a 600 feet unused bore well at 5.15 on the evening of October 25. The saddening news of Sujith's demise was released to the press by Revenue Secretary J Radhakrishnan on Tuesday at 2:15 AM. Radhakrisnan, while speaking to media, stated that all possible efforts were made to rescue him but unfortunately couldn't save him and further asserted that all borewells should be closed.
The body of the deceased minor was taken out by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team and taken to the hospital.
Rescue efforts for Sujith
Rescuers early on Tuesday pulled out the decomposed and mangled body of Sujith Wilson from deep inside the unused borewell, after a futile 80-hour attempt to save the child who had fallen in while playing near his house in Nadukattupatti in Tiruchirappalli. Expressing grief over Wilson's death, Palaniswami said he had deputed three ministers and Revenue AdministrationCommissioner J Radhakrishnan, to oversee rescue operations.
"Many difficulties were faced when a separate borewell (shaft) was being dug near the one (where Wilson was trapped) due to the presence of hard rocks. Overcoming all of them, rescue efforts were carried out day and night," he said in a statement.
