UP CM Yogi Adityanath slams Congress for boycotting special session
Addressing a special session of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly on Wednesday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath castigated the opposition for boycotting the session
Addressing a special session of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly on Wednesday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath castigated the opposition for boycotting the session. It was convened specially to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The marathon session will continue for 36 hours. The ways and means to achieve sustainable development goals as decided by the United Nations will be the topmost agenda for the members of the Assembly.
‘Surprised at the Congress decision’
CM Adityanath has observed that the opposition had shown disrespect not just towards Gandhi, but also the common man of the State. He alleged that the Congress remained in power in the name of the Mahatma. The Chief Minister further claimed that their politics was not in the national interest.
He said, "The opposition has shown disrespect not only to Mahatma Gandhi but also to the common people of this state because the discussion on sustainable goals would have worked to the favour of the poor. I am most surprised at the Congress's decision to boycott the session since this party claims to be Gandhi's legacy. They have remained in power in the name of Gandhi and now they are boycotting a session dedicated to Gandhi which is shameful."
Adityanath further added, “We talk of peace and they talk of terrorism; we talk of self-reliance and they talk of power in limited hands. Their politics is not in the national interest but in the interest of a few and they are concerned about vote bank politics.”
Speaker slams the opposition
The UP CM mentioned that the comprehensive discussion would help the government evolve a policy that would benefit the needy. He stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Swachh Bharat’ campaign had already delivered the goods in the State. He also cited the fall in encephalitis deaths in the eastern part of UP to prove his point. Moreover, UP Assembly Speaker Hriday Narayan Dixit also criticised the opposition for backing out of the session.
Dixit opined, “The opposition has gone back on their signed consent in the biggest state legislature in the country which is not a healthy sign. The opposition should realise that issues like Gandhi and development are above party politics.”
