Shashi Tyagi’s accusations
Before she could immolate herself the legislators and other supporters of MLA Brijesh Singh rushed to rescue Shashi. She was taken to the nearest community health center after the incident and her condition was later declared stable. She in media interactions accused the BJP MLA to harass her family and threatened the MLA of committing self-immolation in front of his house. She said, “The MLA has got fake cases registered against my father, uncle and now, he is targeting two of my other relatives. By doing so, he is indirectly attacking me. I will immolate myself at the MLA's residence at 10 am on Saturday to send a message to the people of Deoband that they should fight for their rights.”
MLA’s stand
The BJP MLA from Deoband, Brijesh Singh reacted to the accusations of Shashi Tyagi and said that he had no role to play in the cases registered against Tyagi’s family members. He said, "Both cases she is referring to have nothing to do with me. I am neither the complainant nor the accused. I don't know why she has been dragging my name into this when I have already clarified this.” The police have said that they are investigating the cases against Tyagi’s family. SSP Dinesh Kumar P said that the immolation bid pulled off by Shashi Tyagi is an attempt to unnecessarily influence the investigation.
