UP: Woman claims husband gave her 'talaq' for giving birth to a girl

In Uttar Pradesh, a woman from Sambhal has alleged that her husband gave her Triple Talaq over the phone after he came to know that she had given birth to a girl child. On Saturday, October 19, the police said they have registered a case based on the woman's complaint in Asmoli police station and further investigation is underway.
Triple talaq for giving birth to a girl child
The woman who is currently staying at her maternal home after an alleged feud with her in-laws recently delivered the baby. "I married to Kamil 11 years ago. I have four daughters. On October 11, I gave birth to a baby girl. When my husband heard the news, he gave him triple talaq over the phone," she said.
A case has been registered
"A woman has filed a complaint of being given triple talaq by her husband. A case has been registered under sections 147, 452, 323, 504 of the Indian Penal Code and 3/4 of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019. We are investigating the case," Superintendent of Police Yamuna Prasad told reporters.

In Kerala, a 35-year-old Muslim man was booked for allegedly giving triple talaq to his wife, five days after she sat on a protest along with her two young children outside his house. Her case came to light after news reports showed the purdah-clad woman sitting on a pathway near the village house at nearby Vanimel along with her five-year-old daughter and two-year-old son. Fatimah Juveria, 24, who has been protesting outside his house to bring attention to her plight, has alleged that her husband got married to another woman after giving her triple talaq.
Despite the ban, the practice still continues
Based on her complaint, the Valayam police registered a case against her husband, A K Sameer, under Sections 3 and 4 of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019 on Thursday. Sameer, 35, a native of Vanimel, works in the Gulf, the police said. V P Suhara, a Muslim woman activist, said it was cruel that despite the ban on triple talaq, the practice was continuing. She demanded that action be taken against the husband and family. After the Centre brought in legislation against the practice this year, at least four such cases were registered in Kerala.
