Former Chhattisgarh chief minister Ajit Jogi's son Amit Jogi, who heads the Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (J), was arrested on Tuesday in the state's Bilaspur district. He was arrested on charges of cheating and forgery, police said. The arrest was made following a police complaint lodged against him by Sameera Paikra. Paikra was the BJP candidate from Marwahi constituency in the 2013 state Assembly polls.
Amit Jogi's nomination discrepancies
Paikra in her complaint said Amit Jogi allegedly submitted wrong information about his birthplace while filing his nomination papers for the 2013 polls. After the investigation for about six months, "Amit Jogi was arrested from Marwahi Sadan in Bilaspur, based on the FIR lodged against him in February this year at Gaurela police station in the district," Superintendent of Police Prashant Agrawal told PTI.
Abdullah Azam Khan's two birth certificates
In a similar fashion, UP police had filed an FIR against Uttar Pradesh MLA Abdullah Azam Khan - son of Samajwadi Party MP Azam Khan on Tuesday regarding discrepancies in age proof on July 30. Furthermore, Republic TV had accessed two contradicting birth certificates submitted by the MLA. One of the birth certificates which he had used during his election nomination process states his birth date as 30 September 1990 and the other states his birth date as 1 January 1993. Police have filed a charge sheet against Abdullah in this matter and the matter is set to be heard in court.
Azam Khan's land-mafia case
Abdullah had been taken into custody by the Rampur police earlier in the day for obstructing search operations in Mohammed Ali Jauhar University. His father- Azam Khan has been slapped with 13 cases against him by the Uttar Pradesh from the year 2006-2016, in connection with land grabbing. Earlier in July, the district authorities listed Samajwadi leader as a 'land mafia' in the anti-land mafia portal that was introduced by the Yogi Adityanath government for allegedly forcibly taking land from farmers to construct the Mohammed Ali Jauhar University, as per sources.
