Five policemen martyred in Maoist attack on police van in Sairaikela, Jharkhand

In a shocking Maoist attack in Saraikela, Jharkhand on Friday, 5 policemen were martyred in Bukru Haat area of the Saraikela district, as per sources. As per initial police reports, the Maoists reportedly attacked the police and looted their vehicle too.

In a shocking Maoist attack in Saraikela, Jharkhand on Friday, 5 policemen were martyred in Bukru Haat area of the Saraikela district, as per sources. As per initial police reports, the Maoists reportedly attacked the police and looted their vehicle too.   

Sources further report that 8-10 Maoists were riding on bikes in the market area of Burku Haat when they opened fire at the police van. 2 sub-Inspectors and 3 constables have reportedly lost their lives in the attack.

Maoist Attack In Jharkhand's Saraikella, Security Personnel Targeted In IED Blast

Saraikela, which lies in the border area where Jharkhand meets Orissa and West Bengal has seen many Maoist attacks in recent times as it has a considerable Maoist population.

Earlier on May 28, an  Improvised Explosive Device (IED) -triggered blast around 4 am in the Kuchai area of Saraikella, Jharkhand. It targeted a joint team of the CRPF's special jungle warfare unit, Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) and the state police when they were carrying out an operation in the forests of Kuchai area in the district in Saraikella.

Eight CoBRA personnel and 3 Jharkhand Police personnel were injured in the IED attack, as per sources. Confirming that it was a Maoist attack and a gunfight between the Maoist and police forces went on before a rescue chopper was sent from Ranchi and the injured jawans were airlifted to Ranchi where they are treated in Ranchi hospital. 

In a similar attack, on April 30, an  IED was detonated by Maoists on a police vehicle in Gadchiroli area of Maharashtra. As per reports, several officers of the C60 Commando Unit have suffered injuries. The incident happened when 20 jawans of Quick Response Team were on their way to the sight where the Maoists burnt the vehicles later during the night. A group of Maoists had burnt more than 27 vehicles and construction machines at the NH27 construction site at Kurkheda in the Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra.

While many condemned the Gadhchiroli attack, on May 28, in a big breakthrough source had informed that intelligence agencies had got strong leads about the planning of the attack. Sources said that Nambala Keshava Rao alias Basavaraj is behind the attack.

The agencies had gotten information that he was hiding in the jungles of Chhattisgarh from where he planned the attack and gave responsibility to execute it to the units in Maharashtra. Sources had also gathered that the fire at the construction site was a trap to distract the attention of the authorities.
