Nuh turns fortress month after clashes, 1,900 cops on ground, no internet, schools closed
Section 144 has been imposed in Nuh on Monday after a religious organisation was denied permission for a shobha yatra.
Security in Nuh, the Haryana district that was the site of fierce clashes following a violent episode at a religious procession on July 31, has been stepped up following a call for another procession on Monday, August 28. Section 144 has been imposed in the district after the Haryana government refused permission to the Vishwa Hindu Parishad to hold a shobha yatra. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said permission was denied in the wake of the violence that took place in the region a few weeks ago. He said people can visit temples in their respective areas, in observance of the month of Shravan.
Nuh to soon host G20 events
Added to concerns surrounding the recent violence, security has also been beefed up in Nuh on account of upcoming G20 events. Haryana DGP Shatrujeet Kapoor said all entry points to the districts have been sealed and the administration will ensure that no outsider can enter. Mobile internet will remain suspended in Nuh till Monday night as a preventive measure.
Nearly 1,900 cops and 26 companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed. An anti-riot team has been set up by the Faridabad police to deal with law-and-order problems.
Police have been directed to keep a watch on political leaders or religious organisations heading towards Nuh. The administration has ordered schools, colleges and banks to stay closed in Nuh.
The violence in Nuh late last month had claimed at least six lives, including that of two homeguards.
