In a massive development in the Iqbal Mirchi case, businessman Raj Kundra has been summoned for questioning by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Raj Kundra, businessmen and the husband of Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty, will have to appear for questioning by the ED on Monday, 4th November.
Sources indicate that Raj Kundra is under the ED scanner for alleged links with Ranjeet Bindra. The ED took Ranjeet Bindra into custody earlier this month. Bindra’s ED custody is reportedly in regard to questioning him on his alleged links with D-Company man Iqbal Mirchi.
Raj Kundra allegedly had business dealings with Ranjeet Bindra. Previously, in a telephonic conversation with Arnab Goswami on live television, Kundra admitted to an association with Bindra. Kundra said, “he (Bindra) was the owner of the company. We have bought into a restaurant that he created so we bought into that chain”. Bindra was taken into custody for allegedly being a frontman and brokering deals for the D-company man Mirchi.
The exact dealings with Ranjeet Bindra for which Raj Kundra has been summoned by the ED are not clear as yet. Republic Media Network, in an exclusive news report, had accessed documents that revealed how RKW Developers, a Ranjeet Bindra - linked company had financial dealings with Essential Hospitality Private Limited. Essential Hospitality Private Limited had, in the past, Shilpa Shetty Kundra as a director and Raj Kundra as a shareholder.
The developments in the Iqbal Mirchi case have been thick and fast in the past one month. The investigation which is now extending to public personalities associated with Bollywood had previously thrown up alleged links to politicians as well as real estate agents.
The ED investigation included summoning NCP leader Praful Patel for questioning for over 12 hours. The investigation even saw the DHFL board member Dheeraj Wadhawan being questioned. Apart from Bindra, the Iqbal Mirchi case investigation has seen a string of individuals being placed under arrest by the ED. Those taken into custody include Rinku Deshpande, Haroun Yusuf and Humayun Merchant.
