Amit Shah a home wrecker: Siddaramaiah over Hindi imposition
Karnataka CLP chief Siddaramaiah has slammed Home Minister Amit Shah for his 'One nation, one language' push stating he was bent in breaking the unity of India
Slamming the Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his 'One nation, one language' push, Karnataka CLP chief Siddaramaiah, on Sunday, has termed Shah a ' wicked insider in a joint family'. He claims that Amit Shah was bent in breaking the unity of the nation. He goes on to say that the 'homewrecker needs to be taught a lesson'. Siddaramaiah, like many political leaders, has maintained that India's diversity is the key to its unity. Siddaramaiah also added that each Indian state explains its own culture and practice.
Siddaramaiah slams Amit Shah
Amit Shah's one nation, one language push
Earlier on Saturday, on the occasion of Hindi Diwas, Shah pitched the idea of ‘one nation, one language’ during a speech in New Delhi's Vigyan Bhawan. Through his speech, the BJP president proposed 'Hindi as Raj Bhasha', citing it as our freedom fighters' dream. He stated that the diversity of languages and dialects is a strength of our nation. But he added that there is a need for our nation to have one language so that foreign languages don't find a place.
Hindi Diwas celebrations for a week next year: Amit Shah
Shah said that the people should take the Hindi movement forward and make it reach the masses. He added that next year, the government will take steps to push Hindi to every nook and corner of the country. He also announced that Hindi Diwas would be celebrated for an entire week the next year and have different programs to raise awareness about Hindi. Extolling Hindi as being 'more diverse than any other language in the world', he hailed it over English for its vocabulary.
Opposition call 'Hindi imposition'
His comments have faced severe backlash from Opposition leaders, particularly from the South. Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) Chief Vaiko slammed Shah for imposing Hindi in the country. He said, "Hindi can be a part of India, not entire India. If Hindi is thrust, then India will be balkanized.” In a similar vein, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi too slammed the Hindi push by the Centre saying that the idea of India was much bigger than the Hindi language, Hindu religion, and the ideology of Hindutva. Other political leaders like Kumaraswamy, Mamta Banerjee, Salman Khurshid too have highlighted the need for diverse languages to sustain in India, not Hindi alone.
