General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), D Raja on Monday spoke about Union Home Minister, Amit Shah's comments on Article 371. D Raja claimed that the statement made by Amit Shah in Assam shows the 'double standards' of the BJP party. "It shows double standards of the BJP government and it also exposes their sinister agenda. People now know why they have done it in Jammu and Kashmir and why Shah is defending other temporary and transitory provisions of the constitution," CPI(M) leader, D Raja said.
"When it came to Article 370, Amit Shah said that it was a temporary provision and the same thing applies to Article 371 as well. There are many states covered by these provisions so why to target Kashmir at this point of time?" D Raja questioned the statement made by Shah in Assam on Monday.
Appeasement Due to NRC
The leader of CPI(M) also alleged that the Home Minister was trying to appease the North-Eastern States due to the National Register of Citizens (NRC) issue in Assam. "After the NRC, the whole Northeast is in turmoil and he (Amit Shah) wants to please them. All this exposes how BJP is trying to push through its sinister design to implement its own agenda across the country," said D Raja. The NRC list was published on August 31 included 3.11 crore people of Assam and excluded 19.06 lakh people. Leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has appealed to the Centre to take political parties in confidence over the NRC in Assam. He said that the government should include political parties in matters of the nation and not just for NRC because the decisions taken have far-reaching implications.
Will not Tamper with Article 371: Amit Shah
Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed the people in Assam and talked about Article 371 that gives special provisions to the North East. Shah said that Article 371 is not a temporary provision but is a special provision. There is a vast difference between Article 370 and 371. The Modi government respects this provision and will not be tampering with Article 371 and Article 371 A to J. The Home Minister is on a two-day visit to Assam since the NRC list came out and this is his first trip to the State after winning the elections.
