Former Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha announces exit from BJP

Rebel BJP leader and former Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha has quit the party officially on Saturday. While announcing his decision he also said that he will not be joining any political party.

Rebel BJP leader and former Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha has quit the party officially on Saturday. While announcing his decision he also said that he will not be joining any political party.

While addressing a gathering in Patna, Sinha said,

“Today I am taking 'sanyas' from any kind of party politics, today I am ending all ties with the BJP.”

Earlier on March 28, Yashwant Sinha along with Shatrughan Sinha met with West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, and appreciated her efforts to bring together all regional forces against the Modi government ahead of coming Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.

Yashwant Sinha has been rebelling against the Bharatiya Janata Party for quite some time now. On February 4, continuing his tirade against the party, he had joined the farmers protest against the proposed NTPC plant in Gadarwara in Madhya Pradesh's Narsinghpur district, and the state government's Bhavantar Bhugtan Yojana. Furthermore, sources had told Republic TV, that Sinha had refused to meet Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan on the matter.

Prior to this, Yashwant Sinha had expressed his disappointment about the Union budget and had termed it as a 'jugglery of numbers'. He had also said the government lost an opportunity to provide relief to the poor and the middle class. Sinha had told reporters the budget had no schemes for the welfare of farmers.

"It was expected that an election-year budget would bring good news for agriculture and the rural sector, but the one presented by Arun Jaitley today was disappointing," he had said.
