Leader of Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly Ram Govind Chaudhary on Tuesday alleged that the government was playing into the hands of capitalists and questioned how the farmers' income would be doubled with rising fuel prices.

"The government is playing into the hands of capitalists... farmers who hail from all castes and religions are the most important but atrocities are being committed against them," Chaudhary said while speaking on Governor Anandiben Patel's address to the joint session of the state legislature.

If they (farmers) do not want the new farm laws, the government should withdraw them, he added.Questionning the government's promise to double the income of farmers, he said rising prices of fuel has a bearing on farming and power rates are increasing too.

"They say that some are andolanjivi and some parjivi. Farmers are not parjivi he is the one who makes the country and world live," Chaudhary said as he demanded 'martyr' status for farmers Navneet Singh and Kashmir Singh of Rampur who died during the ongoing protests.

He also said that proper help should be extended to the families of the duo.Stressing that minimum support price is most important for small farmers, Chaudhary claimed that very little paddy has been procured in the state on MSP and asked Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to order an impartial probe into the matter.Attacking the state government over the law and order situation, Chaudhary presented the figures of the National Crime Records Bureau to underline where the state stands in terms of crime rate.

They say criminals have fled the state out of fear of the chief minister, if this is true then who is committing the crimes, Chaudhary said.

The Samajwadi Party leader slammed the state government for not consulting the opposition parties while taking decisions related to tackling the coronavirus pandemic. How many migrants died while returning home in the absence of food, water and medicines, he asked.Chaudhary claimed that more people died because of mismanagement than the virus.

He further said that unlike traditions and established norms, the Governor arrived over seven minutes late for addressing the House on the first day of the Budget Session and it seems that she did not approve of the address and was not ready to read it.Meanwhile, BSP legislature Party leader Lalji Verma termed the Governor's address as a document aimed at misleading the people.Congress Legislature Party leader Aradhana Misra sought to know how much investment has come in the state and the number of those who have been provided jobs by the government.

There is no roadmap for providing employment in the address. Unemployment rate is at 47-year high, Misra claimed.
