A young sarpanch from Jammu and Kashmir Zubair Nishad Bhat recently revealed that they have been hiding from the voters out of fear. The sarpanch and the panch assured that people were very happy when they were elected. However, after the abrogation of Article 370, they are being forced to hide from the people who elected them, only out of fear.
J&K Sarpanch on meeting with Amit Shah
Amit Shah met the sarpanch and the panch of J&K on September 3. He assured them of security and insurance of Rs 2 lakhs each by the Central Government. Shah also promised government jobs for at least five youngsters from each village in J&K. He further assured extra protection for people whose threat perception is higher.
'We have requested the home minister to provide us security and he has assured us that the administration will provide us security,' said Mir Junaid, a sarpanch from Kupwara
Mir Junaid hails from Kupwara, in the Srinagar district. Junaid reveals that Shah has reassured the people of J&K announcing to the delegation that cell services will be restored in the state. This will take place in the next 15-20 days. Junaid also notified that Amit Shah also declared that the statehood of J&K will be restored as soon as the situation gets normalised. Junaid also spoke of a happy J&K as the people of J&K were fearful of Mufti and Abdullah.
Abrogation of Article 370
Article 370 was abrogated recently that provided the state of J&K with special privileges. This effort by the government was done in a process to integrate the state of J&K with India. Former J&K Chief Ministers, Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah were arrested as soon as the bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha. Omar Abdullah's arrest followed immediately after. It was an act of 'preventive detention' by the government to protect the leaders in order to avoid backlash or any kind of political unrest in the state.
