Samajwadi Party (SP) President Akhilesh Yadav met Governor Ram Naik on Saturday to discuss the poor law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh.
He alleged that 'Jungle-Raj' was thriving in the state. Yadav further asked Naik to "wake up" the Yogi government by playing his part as he did during the SP regime.
Pointing out to the current status of law and order in the state, he said:
"The Governor used to intervene on law and order earlier during the SP regime. It was said that there were only Yadav officers. Now there is hardly any Yadav SP or DM. We have requested the governor to wake up the state government and give directions to control the prevailing 'jungle-raj'," the SP chief told reporters after meeting the Governor.
The SP President along with party leader Ahmad Hasan gave a memorandum to the Governor and urged him to intervene to check the unstable situation of law and order situation in the state. He further raised questions on the state government by addressing the murder of Darvesh Yadav:
"Bar council chairperson is being murdered in her chamber. There are murders in jail. How is this happening? The state government is responsible," he said.
He also tweeted:
"Incidents of rape, killings and political attacks have been increasing in the state. The chief Minister is taking a meeting on the meeting but the law and order is getting worse. The firing of the Chairperson of the Bar Council in Agra has proved that the situation is now out of control."
Yadav also stated that no Yadav has a top post. He said that state government should therefore act:
"Earlier, BJP use to say people of Yadav community are at top posts but I don't think any Yadav community people are at the top post and despite of the fact law and order situation has been deteriorated in state and government need to act."
On 12th June, the Uttar Pradesh Bar Council President Darvesh Yadav was allegedly shot dead on Agra court premises on Wednesday by a lawyer who then tried to kill himself. The assailant was identified as Manish Sharma, a close aide of Yadav. Darvesh was attending a welcome ceremony at the court when Sharma fired three bullets following which, he shot himself once. Both of them were taken to the hospital, but Yadav succumbed to the injuries while Manish Sharma was being treated. Darvesh Yadav was the first woman President in Uttar Pradesh Bar Council.
