Ahead of the next year's Lok Sabha and assembly elections in Maharashtra, Prakash Ambedkar’s party Bharipa Bahujan Mahasangh (BBM) has entered into an alliance with the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM).
A press conference was held by the party in this regard, where Prakash Ambedkar said, “In the last one and half months we have made our stand clear that we are ready to accept a coalition with Congress but not with friends of Congress. We did not get any response from Congress. By the time we got information that AIMIM wanted to support us during our Maharashtra tour and so for Maharashtra, we accept that we (BBM party) and AIMIM are fighting the state elections together.”
He further added, “As far as Congress goes, our doors are open for them till the day nominations are finally filed. We have been very open that we are totally against NCP. We can say that we are having parallel conversations with Congress too because looking at the current situation in the country we feel there is a need to fight the elections together with Congress but we are waiting for their formal approach.”
The BBM leader also targeted Shiv Sena during the press conference. “It seems that we get along with AIMIM has affected Shivsena the most. Shivsena and BJP are realizing that their dominance is slowly ending and other social forces are making way, therefore, there is a sense of insecurity in them," he mentioned.
Talking to Republic TV, Prakash Ambedkar stated that his party had already demanded 12 seats from the 28 assembly seats in the State from Congress. Whereas as per Congress sources, this demand may not be accepted.
Earlier, talking to Republic TV, AIMIM leaders said that the tie-up with Ambedkar's BBM will formally be sealed at a rally to be organized by both parties on October 2. As per the proposal mooted by the AIMIM leadership in Maharashtra, Prakash Ambedkar will lead the third front that will help Dalits, Muslims and the Other Backward Castes (OBC) fight for their share of power.
