Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday issued a stern warning to the illegal immigrants in the country during discussions on NRC (National Register of Citizens) in the Parliament. Addressing the Rajya Sabha proceeding, Amit Shah said while NRC is currently a part of Assam Accord, actions will be taken to identify every illegal infiltrator in the country and deport them back as per the international law.
"Currently NRC is a part of Assam Accord. We will ensure that all the illegal immigrants and infiltrators living on every inch of this country will be identified and deport them as per the international law," the Home Minister said in Rajya Sabha.
Earlier in July, Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya had raised the issue of '40,000 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants residing in Karnataka' and asked the Centre and Home Minister Amit Shah to intervene and bring the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the state. He urged the Centre to implement the NRC in the state "to weed out" the illegal immigrants, adding that they are not only a security threat but also a threat to locals as they have to compete for jobs.
Home Minister Amit Shah has been a staunch anchor of the NRC, saying that it is a way to solve the basic problems of illegal immigration in the country.
"How is it possible that anyone can come and settle down here? The country cannot run like this. Those who are its citizens should stay here only and they only have the right to the resources of this country," he had said addressing a public forum earlier in December 2018.
The NRC is currently included in the Assam Accord, keeping in mind the increased influx of people from Bangladesh since the early 20th century in the state. It is currently the only state having a National Register of Citizens (NRC), first prepared in 1951, which is updated under the monitoring of the Supreme Court.
