All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President Asaduddin Owaisi launched a blistering attack on Congress President for hugging Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Owaisi called the hug ‘shameful’.

Slamming the Congress President, Asaduddin Owaisi said, “people are being lynched in name of cow killing and you are hugging PM Modi”.

“No-confidence motion was moved against PM Modi. The House had debate of around 7 hours on the issue and instead of debating you (Rahul Gandhi) went to embrace PM Modi,” added Owaisi.

Owaisi further said if he would even have so much so “shaken hands with PM Modi, the gesture would have created chaos in the House, and he hugged Modi”.

On July 20, Rahul Gandhi drew bursts of laughter and criticisms alike for his speech and antics during his address on no-confidence motion against the PM Modi-led government. One such antic of his caught PM Modi off-guard. After finishing his address, Rahul Gandhi went to the Prime Minister and hugged him and started to strut across the hall. PM Modi who was not ready for the gesture, called him back, uttered something in his ears while shaking hands with him.

However, it seems the Congress President’s over-enthusiasm and his speech failed to impress the BJP as they have called his actions ‘immature’. Later while addressing the House on the Opposition’s ‘No Confidence motion’, he mocked and slammed Rahul Gandhi for his hug, calling it an imposed hug.

On the other hand, the Congress party claimed that the hug shocked and surprised Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"When Prime Minister Modi can shake hands with the Prime Minister of Pakistan, why not with Rahul? We all expected Prime Minister Modi to return the affection with a smile, but Modi Ji looked shocked and surprised," Congress spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill said at a press conference.
