Puducherry CM refers to L-G Kiran Bedi as a 'Demon'; Bedi hits back

The conflict between the Congress government in Puducherry and Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Kiran Bedi is not something new. Ever since Kiran Bedi took charge as LG of Puducherry in May 2016 and V Narayanasamy assumed office in June 2016, the tussle has been ongoing. Both of them have been in loggerheads in many of the issues including the administrative, governance and the policy decisions of Puducherry.

Starting from the appointment of MLAs by the HMO to implementation of compulsory helmet scheme, both were poles apart in each and every aspect. While this was the case, Puducherry CM Narayanasamy with the entire cabinet sat for dharna in front of the Puducherry Rajnivas, to show their opposition against the L-G Kiran Bedi who didn't approve the files sent by the state government.

Narayanasamy claimed that Bedi is not letting the democratically elected people's government to function independently while Kiran Bedi claimed that she is been acting only under the purview of her powers.

Amid this situation, Chief Minister Narayanasamy while addressing a meeting at Puducherry on Thursday referred Kiran Bedi as a demon. He said: "Ministers and MLAs are working hard day and night, they've made a demon/ghost to sit here. She stops every scheme. The free rice scheme is for the poor. She intervened and stopped it. I'll meet officials to get fund for Puducherry, she will go meet them and stop the fund."

Responding to the spat of the chief minister, the Lieutenant Governor (L-G) has in a statement said: "The expression of DEMON used is unparliamentary, uncalled for, uncivilised, uncouth and unacceptable." She also said that the duty of the public officials are duty-bound to protect people and prevent wastages detected, for the protection of the silent majority.
