Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday tweeted about National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah being booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA) on Sunday. Rahul Gandhi said that the Centre's intent to create a political vacuum in Jammu and Kashmir is clear through its move to remove 'nationalist leaders like Farooq Abdullah'. He also said that the Centre is trying to make Kashmir a political instrument to polarise the entire nation. He said that the Centre should stop creating space for terrorists in the region. He also said that the government should release all 'nationalist leaders' who have been detained and under house arrest as soon as possible.

It’s obvious that the Government is trying to remove nationalist 🇮🇳 leaders like Farooq Abdullah Ji to create a political vacuum in Jammu & Kashmir that will be filled by terrorists.

Kashmir can then permanently be used as a political instrument to polarise the rest of India.
The Government should stop creating space for terrorists in Jammu & Kashmir and release all nationalist leaders ASAP.

Farooq Abdullah detained under PSA
The Home Ministry has detained Abdullah and declared his house as a subsidiary jail. While there is no bar on meeting relatives and friends, the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister will continue to stay in his house. As per the PSA provisions, the government could detain a person for up to two years, although, for 'first-time offenders' the length of the detention is limited to six months. However, in the case of "no improvement in the conduct of the detainee," the detention can be extended to its full course of two years. The PSA act was initially promulgated during Sheikh Abdullah, the father of Farooq Abdullah's tenure.
Congress questions Home Minister over NC leader's detention
On Farooq Abdullah's detention under Public Safety Act (PSA) the Congress party taking Amit Shah to task questioned if the Home Minister was lying on the floor of the Parliament over the statement made by him on August 6, the day when the bill to abrogate Article 370 was tabled in the Lok Sabha. Recalling Amit Shah's statement inside the Lok Sabha on August 6, wherein he claimed that National Conference patron Farooq Abdullah was neither arrested nor was put under house arrest, however, after the recent development, the Congress party questioning his claims accused the Home Minister 'severely breached his privilege.' "When asked in the Parliament, HM made a statement that former CM of J&K was not detained or arrested. Now we are told he is arrested under PSA? Did HM lie on the floor of the house? Isn't it a severe breach of Privilege?" tweeted the Congress.
