Congress President Rahul Gandhi's resignation drama has been the focus of the party ever since it faced a humiliating loss in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. The resignation drama further extended on Monday, as Chief Minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot took to Twitter to put out a flurry of tweets, accepting his share of responsibility for the defeat and extending support to Rahul Gandhi to continue as the chief of the party.
Taking to Twitter, Gehlot said that all the Chief Ministers of Congress-ruled states would be meeting Rahul Gandhi at his residence to show solidarity and also take responsibility for the loss in the Lok Sabha polls.
Gelhot extended unconditional support to Rahul Gandhi on behalf of the Congress party, as he went on to praise the leader's commitment towards the well-being of the country and its citizens.
Attacking the BJP government at the Centre, Gelhot claimed that the defeat in the polls was not a defeat of the programs and ideology of the Congress and that it was unfortunate to see the Modi government back in power despite its failure on various fronts including the economy.
However, Gelhot maintained that the Congress president single-handedly tried his best to take on the BJP and fight the elections based on issues significant to the country.
Congress has been entangled in a leadership turmoil since Rahul Gandhi offered his resignation as Congress Chief during the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting on May 25, as the Congress managed to secure only 52 seats in the recent Lok Sabha elections which also saw Gandhi lose his bastion -Amethi, to BJP leader Smriti Irani. The party was completely routed in states that it had only recently won - Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Gehlot's Rajasthan.
