Sanjay Nirupam raises questions on Milind Deora after he quits as Mumbai Congress chief, asks, 'is this a resignation or a ladder to climb?'

Sanjay Nirupam has slammed his successor Milind Deora who announced that he has resigned as the Mumbai Congress chief. Deora has said that he had quit as to work as the Mumbai Congress chief as it was difficult to win against forces such as the Vanchit Bahujan in Maharashtra. He also said he was looking forward to play a role at the national level to stabilise the party.

Nirupam slammed his former replacement saying that his resignation sounded like a move to climb in his political career than taking the onus of the loss in the Lok Sabha elections and making self-sacrifice. He also said that Congress should be beware of such 'diligent workers'

"There is a feeling of sacrifice in resignation. Here the next thought after resignation is to ask for the 'National Level' post. Is this a resignation or a ladder to climb up? The party should beware of such diligent workers," he said in a tweet. 

He had also criticised Deora's decision to appoint a three-member committee to run the Mumbai Congress. He said that it will hurt the party further.

When contacted, Deora said political realities have changed since the Lok Sabha results. "We all will have to get ready for roles that these times demand," he said.

Deora was appointed president of the Mumbai Congress on the eve of the Lok Sabha polls held earlier this year. "I had accepted MRCC presidentship in the interest of uniting the party. I felt I should also resign after meeting Rahul Gandhi," he said.

The former Mumbai Congress chief's decision comes as senior Congress leaders met at the Congress war room 15 GRG, New Delhi where they discussed the matter of the next Congress president and the ongoing political crisis in Karnataka.
