BJP Rajya Sabha MP Dr Subramanian Swamy has warned the Congress party of an anticipated split in the future due to the rift between its senior leaders over the praises for PM Modi, for which senior Congress leader Veerappa Moily has criticized Jairam Ramesh and Shashi Tharoor.
Swamy: Congress heading for a split
By drawing a parallel to the split of the erstwhile Soviet Union as the Communist party broke into two and the Soviet Union was split into sixteen countries, Swamy termed the return of Sonia Gandhi to head the Congress party as the return of old Stalinist policy in the party which might lead to a breakdown of the party which is not good for the politics of the country.
“With Sonia Gandhi returning to head the Congress party, the old Stalinist-time policy will be followed. Congress party should watch it because it is clearly heading for a split," the BJP leader said
Veerappa Moily calls for disciplinary action of Jairam Ramesh and Shashi Tharoor
After Jairam Ramesh and Shashi Tharoor praised Modi, Veerappa Moily has held Jairam Ramesh responsible for the policy paralysis during the UPA 2 government and hit out at Shashi Tharoor claiming that the Congress Lok Sabha MP was never considered a matured politician.
Moily claimed that Jairam Ramesh’s praising remark on Modi was in bad taste for the Congress party and has insisted the party take appropriate disciplinary action on Ramesh and Tharoor.

While launching a book, Jairam Ramesh had said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s governance model is not a “complete negative story” and not recognizing his work and demonizing him all the time is not going to help”
“It was time we recognized Mr Modi’s work and what he did between 2014 and 2019 due to which he was voted back to power by over 30% of the electorate”, Ramesh added.
"He talks in a language that connects him with the people. Unless we recognize that he is doing things which people recognize and which have not been done in the past, we are not going to able to confront this guy,” Jairam Ramesh cautioned, also giving the example of Pradhan Mantri Ujwalla Yojana (PMUJ) to prove his point
He said that in 2019, all the Congress party members in the political discourse made fun of one or two of his programmes, but it has turned out in all electoral studies that the PMUJ is one single programme which has been able to connect him with crores and crores of women and given him the political traction which he didn’t have in 2014.
Senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi also supported Jairam Ramesh by tweeting that always demonizing Modi is wrong.
Tharoor also a echoed similar sentiment endorsing Jairam Ramesh and Singhvi’s thought, tweeting, "As you know, I have argued for six years now that Narendra Modi should be praised whenever he says or does the right thing, which would add credibility to our criticisms whenever he errs. I welcome others in opposition coming around to a view for which I was excoriated at the time."
