After the embarrassing defeat of the RJD in the Lok Sabha elections 2019, there has been rift within the RJD in Bihar as Maheshwar Yadav, MLA from Gaighat assembly seat in Muzaffarpur has demanded Tejashwi Yadav's resignation. Tejashwi who is leading the RJD in the absence of his father and RJD chief Lalu Yadav has failed to defeat the JD(U)-BJP alliance in the state as they won 38 out of the 40 Lok Sabha seats.

Speaking to Republic TV, RJD MLA Maheshwar Yadav said:

"Why should I leave the party? I made the party. When an emergency was imposed then I went to jail for 24 days and it is due to our hard work that this party was made.
Citizens have given their verdict against the dynasty politics so now RJD must understand and hand over the party leadership to a senior leader of the party. Tejashwi should take moral responsibility and he should quit, we did not get one seat. RJD should go ahead under a new leader. I will not reveal the MLAs I am in touch with but revolt will soon happen.. I won't be the part of the meeting until Tejashwi quits."

Maheshwar Yadav has been opposing Tejashwi and Lalu since July 2017 ever since Bihar Cheif Minister Nitish Kumar and Lalu Yadav parted ways. Meanwhile, Congress suspended MLA Bhawna Jha also claimed that the Gathbandhan sold the ticket of the Madhubani Lok Sabha seat and RJD sabotaged Congress candidate Ranjita Ranjan in Supaul.

Tejashwi Yadav has called for a legislative party meeting on May 28 and May 29 to assess the ground situation that led to the party's shameful defeat in the Lok Sabha elections.  However, Tejashwi's brother Tej Pratap who claims to be the 'real blood of Lalu Prasad Yadav' spoke to Republic Bharat on the rebel MLA Maheshwar Yadav. He said:

"Maheshwar Yadav is alleging but ask him who made him the MLA. Who selected him? Does he have any status? He has a rebellious attitude. He should resign from the party instead. Tejashwi ji will decide at the party meet tomorrow about the defeat."
