On the birth anniversary of Veer Damodar Savarkar on May 28, Tuesday, BJP chief Amit Shah paid his tribute to the Indian independence activist. Shah said that Veer Savarkar as a unique revolutionary who lit the lamp of patriotism in the hearts of crores of people. He added that Savarkar opposed the appeasing policy in Indian polity. Savarkar was born on this day in 1883 near Nasik in Maharashtra and was popularly called Veer Savarkar.
Taking to Twitter on Tuesday, May 28, BJP president in a series of tweets enlisted the contribution of Savarkar towards the nation.He said:
"Veer Savarkar fought for the nation as well as fought against the caste system and also worked to address the gaps prevailing in our language. This is the birth anniversary of the legendary patriotic, great freedom fighter, and a visionary."
He added in another tweet: "Veer Savarkar was a unique revolutionary who lit the lamp of patriotism in the hearts of crores of people. He strongly opposed the appeasing policy in Indian polity and described it as a major threat to India."
On the occasion of Savarkar's birth anniversary, a function to pay floral tributes to him will be held in the Central Hall of Parliament House on May 28.
Prime Minister-elect Narendra Modi also paid his tribute to the Indian independence activist and the formulator of the Hindutva philosophy. PM said that Veer Savarkar is an epitome of courage, patriotism and is an example of commitment towards India. He also added that it was Savarkar who inspired many people to devote themselves towards nation building.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh also paid his tribute to the freedom fighter Savarkar.
