Yogeshwar Dutt joins BJP, in talks to contest Haryana Assembly polls
Yogeshwar Dutt, an Olympic medallist wrestler joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), confirmed sources. He has joined the party just ahead of Haryana polls.
Yogeshwar Dutt, an Olympic medallist wrestler has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He has joined the party just ahead of the Haryana polls. According to sources, the Olympic wrestler hailing from Haryana was in contention for a Lok Sabha ticket from the BJP during the general elections. Reports suggest that he could be made a candidate in the upcoming Haryana polls next month. Further sources claimed that his name was recommended by the party's state unit.
The Olympic winner may contest the assembly elections next month in the Sonipat Lok Sabha constituency. Sonipat is also his home district. Currently, the district's seats are held by the BJP which won 47 seats in the 90-member seats in the 2014 elections. Further reports suggested that Dutt had met the State Unit President Subhash Barala in New Delhi to inform about his resignation from the Haryana police.

Yogeshwar Dutt, a freestyle wrestler, had won a bronze medal in the 2012 Summer Olympics. In 2013, he was honored with the Padma Shri award. Later, in 2014, he won a gold medal in both- Commonwealth games and Asian games. Just as his entry into BJP has been confirmed, Netizens congratulated him on Twitter.
Haryana Assembly Polls
The Election Commission (EC) on Saturday had announced the dates for the upcoming Assembly polls for two states- Haryana and Maharashtra. As announced by the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Sunil Arora, polling of the 90 seats of Haryana will take place on October 21. Further, the counting will be done on October 24. According to reports, the term of Haryana Assembly expires on November 2. Parallelly, the Maharashtra Assembly polls will take place as well. The term of Maharashtra Assembly is said to expire on November 9.
