WATCH: 'All 8 crore free LPG connections will be provided by the coming year' says Piyush Goyal hailing Ujjwala Yojana for improving quality of women's lives, in Budget 2019 speech

In a boost to women empowerment, interim Finance Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday, during his budget speech, announced government's plan of 'women's development' and 'women-led development'. 

He mentioned that the government is focusing on the quality of life of women in rural India and mentioned about providing cleaner fuel to them under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. He said that 8 crores of free LPG connections will be provided to ensure the health of the women in the country, out of which 6 crore connections have already been delivered and rest of it will be done by the coming year.

"We will transform the quality of life of women in rural India by providing cleaner fuel. For securing the health of every homemaker in rural areas, 8 crores free LPG connections under the Ujjwala Yojana will be provided, so that she does not have to shed tears to nourish her family. In this, 6 crore connections have already been delivered and by the coming year all 8 crores connects will be provided." he said.

Talking about the success of the Ujjwala scheme, he further stated, "Ujwalla is a remarkable success story of our governments' program, defined by a bold yet practical vision of responsible and compassionate leadership."

Talking about women empowerment while presenting the Narendra Modi-led government's sixth and final budget, the minister also mentioned that "more than 70% of the beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana are women who are getting affordable and collateral free loans to start their own businesses."

He also talked about the benefits of maternity leave that ensure 26 weeks leave for a pregnant woman. He said that "Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana for pregnant women has provided financial support to women while empowering them to work."
