1 Dead, 2 Missing After Helicopter Crashes into Ocean Near Hawaiian Island of Kauai
Three people were on board the Robinson R44 helicopter. One person is dead and a search operation is underway for two others, authorities confirmed.
Hawaii (US): In a tragic incident, a helicopter operated by a tour company crashed into the ocean off the Hawaiian island of Kauai, killing at least one person while two others are reported to be missing.
As per the local authorities, a search operation is underway for the two persons who went missing. Three people were on board the Robinson R44 helicopter.
“The crash was reported around 1:20 p.m., about a quarter of a mile off the island’s northern shore, near the Hanakoa Valley along the Na Pali Coast. One of the three people who had been on the helicopter was found and confirmed dead about an hour later,” said the Kauai Police Department.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will launch an investigation into the incident, officials said.
Earlier, the last fatal tourist helicopter crash in Hawaii, in 2019, also happened in Kauai, near Kekah in which a pilot and six passengers were killed. The board pinned the blame on the deceased pilot stating that he had chosen to continue a tour in deteriorating weather and lost sight of the terrain before the crash.
