17-year-old student dies one week after being beaten up by group

New Delhi: A 17-year-old boy succumbed to injuries on Saturday, December 23, eight days after he was allegedly beaten up by a group, including another student.

The Delhi Police said that the class 12 student was beaten by another student and his group while returning from school on December 15. Officials said that the victim sustained several injuries on his head and face.

However, no medico-legal case was made and the victim went home after taking first aid treatment, as both parties had settled the matter later.

The police investigation revealed that both schoolboys had a verbal spat on December 12 outside their school and three days later, the accused with others accosted and assaulted the victim in Bhajanpura.

"Yesterday morning, the victim's health started deteriorating and he lost consciousness. He was taken to GTB Hospital, where the doctors referred him to RML Hospital," said police adding that a case was immediately registered based on the victim's father.

The boy died on Saturday late night around 10:30 pm while undergoing treatment.

A case has also been filed under the relevant IPC at the police station.
