4 dead, several injured during stampede-like situation at CUSAT University's tech fest
The accident took place during a music concert by Nikhita Gandhi that was held in the open-air auditorium on the campus.

In a shocking development, at least four students died and around 60 were left injured in a stampede-like situation at CUSAT University in Kerala's Kochi, state's health minister Veena George said.
The accident took place during a music concert by Nikhita Gandhi that was held in the open-air auditorium on the campus. According to officials, two boys and two girls were brought dead upon arrival at Kalamassery Medical College.
Sharing details of the incident, Municipal Councilor Pramod said, “Exit and entrance through the same gate led to the stampede. Students were trying to enter through the same gate. Students who were entering through the steep steps fell down first and the huge crowd at the gate stomped them again and again.”
Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) M R Ajith said that the stampede occured due to rain. "Due to sudden rain people who were at the sites tried to get inside. So suddenly people who were on the steps fell down and people walked over them...Four people were brought dead to the hospital, and another four were seriously injured... Other than that, around a total of 46 people have reported injuries in medical college," he said.
Under the chairmanship of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, an emergency meeting of the ministers was held at 8:30 pm on Saturday at the guest house over the tragedy. As a sign of mourning, the celebratory programs and artistic programs related to the Navakerala sadas were cancelled on Sunday.
"The entire state is in shock over the stampede that unfolded at CUSAT University in Ernakulam. Heartfelt condolences go out to the family members of the four students who lost their lives. Immediate and enhanced treatment facilities have been arranged for the injured. P. Rajeev, the Minister for Industries, and R. Bindu, the Minister of Higher Education, have departed for Ernakulam to assess the situation directly. A thorough investigation into the incident will commence without delay," Vijayan said.
Industries Minister P Rajeev and Higher Education Minister Dr R. Bindu have been assigned to Kalamassery to review the situation. Health Minister Veena George will coordinate matters related to ensuring treatment. The CM directed to ensure necessary treatment for the injured.
