WATCH: Pre-polls, when Aaditya Thackeray said he wasn't after any post
Before the Assembly polls in Maharashtra, Aaditya Thackeray had said that he is not looking for a post, but after the elections, there appears to be a u-turn
Amid the hectic political developments in Maharashtra since the election results were declared, a delegation of Shiv Sena leaders, led by Aaditya Thackeray, reached the Raj Bhavan to meet with the state Governor on Monday. With the BJP declining to form the government, Shiv Sena, the second-largest party in the state was invited to form the government. Lacking the required numbers, it is reported that the Shiv Sena will be supported by Congress and NCP, and the Shiv Sena may finally have its demand for having a Chief Minister from the party fulfilled.
'Not running behind a particular post right now'
However, it is interesting that just before the Legislative Assembly elections in the state, Aditya Thackeray while speaking to Republic TV's Editor Niranjan over his aspirations to become the Chief Minister of the state, a post that no Thackeray has ever held, stated that he was not running behind a 'particular post', rather enjoying the process. "It's very kind of them (supporters) to say that, but for me, I'm not running behind a particular post right now. Because I've seen so many people run behind a particular post, and not enjoy what they are doing. It is a process," Thackeray had said. Here is the link to the video:
Congress- Shiv Sena - NCP to form govt in Maharashtra?
Sources report that Sena supremo Uddhav Thackeray talked to Sonia Gandhi about a possible alliance with the Congress- NCP to stake a claim in Maharashtra to form the next government. The Congress is yet to decide on the support to Shiv Sena and NCP to form a government, as per sources. Thackeray had previously spoken to Sonia Gandhi on Sunday, after BJP's refusal to form a government in Maharashtra. Earlier in the day, the Shiv Sena chief met with NCP patron Sharad Pawar to discuss the probable alliance between the ideologically differing parties.
Recent Maha-politics
Blaming the Sena for fracturing the Mahayuti alliance, BJP announced that it would not form the next government in the state on Sunday, after meeting the governor. Sena, being the second-largest part was then invited to form the government - proving its ability by Monday evening- 7:30 PM. Both NCP and Congress are now in a huddle, talking with their MLAs discussing a possible alliance with the saffron party. NCP is currently waiting for Congress to decide on the alliance. Senior Congress leaders will meet with Sonia Gandhi to take a final call. BJP in spite of stating its inability to form the next government too is set to hold a core group meeting headed by Devendra Fadnavis. The major tiff between the two ideologically similar parties BJP and Shiv Sena is for the 50-50 formula and sharing the CM post for 2.5 years each. BJP has refused to both, with the BJP willing to give Shiv Sena 13 cabinet portfolios and keeping 26 portfolios for itself.
