Abhijit Banerjee wins Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences; Netizens react
Abhijit Banerjee, Esther Duflo, and Michael Kremer were awarded the 2019 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in the Memory of Alfred Nobel on Monday.
Abhijit Banerjee was awarded the 2019 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in the Memory of Alfred Nobel, or more commonly known as the Nobel Prize for Economics, on Monday. He shared the prestigious award with his wife Esther Duflo, and Michael Kremer for their experimental approach to alleviating global poverty. The prize which is a part of the Noble stable of awards was created by the Riksbanken, the Swedish Central Bank in 1968 and the first winner was selected in 1969. 81 Nobel Laureates have been awarded the prize in economic sciences. Twitter soon exploded with congratulatory tweets and warm wishes for Banerjee. Netizens reacted with good wishes.

The Nobel Prize official Twitter handle while giving further details on Banerjee's feat said that over 700 million people, even today, survive on very low income and every year, five million children die before their fifth birthday due to the inability to afford even cheap and simple treatments. The Nobel Prize also credited Banerjee, Duflo and Kremer for introducing a new approach to obtain reliable answers about the best way to combat global poverty.
