Giridih Bridge Collapse: After incidents of bridge collapse in Bihar, now a similar incident has been reported from the neighbouring state of Jharkhand. In Jharkhand's Giridih, a girder of an under-construction bridge over the Arga river collapsed on Saturday. The bridge would connect Jharkhand's Giridih to Bihar's Jamui district.
A pillar of the under-construction bridge got titled in the heavy rain, leading to the incident, said reports. The bridge was being constructed on Fatehpur-Bhelwagati road to connect Dumritola and Karipahri villages.
The incident took place in Deori block, around 235 km from Jharkhand's capital Ranchi, on Saturday night. No one was injured in the incident.
What Authorities Said?
The authorities are tight-lipped over the incident, while reconstruction of the washed away portion has been ordered. “The bridge is under construction. A single-span girder of the bridge collapsed due to heavy rain on Saturday night and a pillar got tilted,” said Vinay Kumar, Executive Engineer of Road Construction Department, as quoted by PTI.
“The contractor has been asked to rebuild the portion,” Executive Engineer Vinay Kumar added. The casting on the girder was done a week ago and it needed at least 28 days to be strengthened, another engineer said.
