AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday condemned the attack on a temple in Delhi's Chandni Chowk area, saying that the culprits should be prosecuted and convicted in a time-bound manner.
Taking to Twitter, the AIMIM chief said that an "attack on any place of worship or worshippers is an attack on the very pluralism and the diversity of our dear country".
He further called the 'act of vandalism' "highly condemnable" and demanded the culprits be prosecuted and convicted in a time-bound manner.
This development has come in the wake of vandalisation of a temple located in Hauz Qazi area of Chandni Chowk in the national capital of Delhi on Monday.
A clash broke out between two groups over the issue of parking in old Delhi's Chawri Bazaar area, after which a temple was allegedly vandalised.
Following the incident, Union Minister and Chandni Chowk MP, Dr Harsh Vardhan said that the incident is highly unfortunate and painful. He further appealed the people to maintain harmony in the area.
"It is very unfortunate and painful. The kind of things done to the temple is unforgivable. I have been told that Police is already in action, culprits will be arrested soon and punished. I appeal to the people to maintain harmony," Harsh Vardhan said.
Three people, including a juvenile, have been arrested over the matter. The Delhi Police have registered three FIRs in this case - two cross FIRs, one lodged by each community, and one for vandalising the temple. FIR has been filed by a priest of temple Durga Mandir and crosses FIR by cops.
Meanwhile, security has been tightened in the area. Following the incident, groups of locals in Chandni Chowk come out on streets with placards asking for 'peace' and 'resumption of normal business' in the area.
