New Delhi: The Amarnath Yatra has been suspended for tomorrow on the Baltal Axis due to urgent maintenance work required after heavy rains on August 11. The suspension applies to both the Baltal and Pahalgam routes. The decision has been made to ensure the safety of pilgrims.
"Due to the heavy rains today, urgent repair and maintenance works are required to be undertaken on the Baltal Axis of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra route. In the interest of the safety of the yatris, no Yatra will be allowed tomorrow from the Baltal route also. Further updates will be issued in due course of time", the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Vijay Kumar Bidhuri said.
Further updates will be issued in the due course of time, he added.
The suspension is a precautionary measure to prevent any potential risks to the safety of the pilgrims, who rely on these routes to reach the sacred Amarnath Cave. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and will resume the Yatra as soon as it is safe to do so.
The Information Department of Kashmir has confirmed the suspension and urged pilgrims to stay updated on the latest announcements.
More than 5.10 lakh pilgrims have paid obeisance to Lord Shiva at the 3,880-metre-high cave shrine so far this year.
The Amarnath Yatra commenced on June 29 and will conclude on August 19.
