Amid Maharashtra drama, Nirupam makes U-turn and defends Congress

Estranged Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam, in a tweet, speaking about the current political instability in Maharashtra, on Tuesday, said that blaming Congress for it is meaningless. He further added that the current scenario is the "failure" of the BJP and Shiv Sena and it has brought the state on the doorstep of President's rule.

His comment came after the allegations against Congress that were put up by the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), on Tuesday. NCP blamed Congress for causing a delay in decision making regarding lending the alliance's support to Shiv Sena for the government formation in the state. 

"We (Congress and NCP) fought elections together. That's why we should make the decision together. We (NCP) waited for their (Congress) letter yesterday. But we did not receive the letter by the evening. It was not right for us to give the letter. Whatever be the decision, there should be stability," NCP leader Ajit Pawar said.

Amidst the political chaos in the state, Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, on Monday, asked NCP chief Sharad Pawar to indicate the willingness and ability of his party, which finished third in the assembly polls, to form the government in Maharashtra.

Governor's recommendation for Prez rule

Additionally, Koshyari, in a report to MHA, recommended President’s rule over the state. This came after the NCP sought more time to form a government.

BJP, which emerged as the single-largest party in Maharashtra assembly polls with 105 seats, later declined to form the government owing to differences with Shiv Sena, which bagged 56 seats.
