Amit Shah's Big Statement Says, Oppn Has No Chance To Come In Power For Next 15-20 Years
Home Minister Amit Shah made a statement in Rajya Sabha saying that they (BJP) is here to stay and that the opposition has no chance for next 20 years.

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday stirred the opposition with a statement in the Rajya Sabha, asserting that the BJP is here to stay and that the opposition has no chance of coming to power for the next 15-20 years. The Home Minister made this remark during a debate on the amendments being made in the Disaster Management Bill 2024 in the Rajya Sabha.
The Disaster Management Bill 2024, which was passed in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, was earlier cleared by Lok Sabha during the winter session in December. As the bill has now been cleared by the Parliament, Amit Shah asserted that there will be no centralisation of powers or discrimination with states in handling disasters.
During the debate, Amit Shah launched a sharp attack at the Opposition, particularly Congress , who were opposing the bill, the Home Minister pointed out on Congress party's past management of the Prime Minister's Relief Fund and hit out at the Grand Old Party over lack of accountability and transparency.
In a statement, the Union Minister said that some members raised the question that what is the need for amendment adding if a bill is not repaired on time then it collapses.
Taking a dig at the Opposition, Amit Shah said that they (Oppn) think maybe they will come and change it but nobody's turn will come for the next 15-20 years. Speaking further, Amit Shah said that whatever has to be done, only they have to do it.
“The Disaster Management Act was implemented for the first time in 2005. Under this, NDMA, SDMA and DDMA were formed. Now, concerns are being expressed that there will be centralization of power. If you read the entire Bill carefully, then the biggest responsibility of implementation lies with the District Disaster Management which is under the State Government. Therefore, there is no possibility of harming the federal structure anywhere,” the Union Home Minister said.
Amit Shah, who is known for his ‘Chanakya Niti’, making this statement, appears to be a well-thought remark and not just a random show of strength to the Opposition.
Briefing Rajya Sabha members on the features of the bill, Amit Shah said, "This bill ensures transparency, trust credibility and accountability," adding that the government was moving towards from a "reactive to pro-active and innovative approach".
"Our fight against disasters cannot be done without strengthening the institutions. Unless the institutions are made more accountable and responsible. If one looks at the bill, you will find we have done both things," he said.
“Due to climate change, the nature and scale of disasters have changed. With that, we have to change the way we tackle them,” the Union Minister added.
The Union Home Minister emphasised that India is advancing towards achieving zero casualties during disasters under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi .
