Kishanganj: The collapsing bridges appear to have become a non-ending tragedy in Bihar as another bridge collapsed in the state’s Kishanganj district on Thursday, marking fourth-such incidents in a span of just two weeks. The 70 metres long bridge was located in Bahadurganj block of Kishanganj district. It is being said that the incident occurred after one of the pillars of the bridge got washed away in the strong current.

Following the incident, Kishanganj District Magistrate Tushar Singla said that the bridge located in Bahadurganj block was 70 meters long and 12 meters wide.

Singla said, "This bridge was built in 2011 on Madia, a small tributary river connecting Kanakayi river to Mahananda. Due to heavy rains in the catchment area in Nepal, the water level has suddenly increased. One of the pillars of the bridge could not withstand the strong current."

Confirming the incident, the official said that no casualties have been reported in this accident so far.

He said that 'barricading' has been done on both sides of the bridge to prevent any kind of movement during the repair work.

Three incidents of bridge collapse have been reported from Araria, Siwan and Araria districts in Bihar last week.

In the last few years, many similar incidents have happened in different parts of the state but no one has been injured. However, these incidents have raised questions on the quality of government construction work in the state.
