Kolkata: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came down heavily on the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government following another alleged flogging incident in the state. An old video clip showing a girl being assaulted by a group of people inside a club in the North 24 Parganas district has gone viral on social media. The motive behind the girl's assault remains unknown.

While the BJP alleged that a person close to the local TMC MLA was behind torturing the girl, the state's ruling party demanded that the video be examined to find out its authenticity.

BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla took to X and asked whether Rahul Gandhi and other INDI bloc leaders will visit the victim. "One more Bengal Talibani video has surfaced, which shows that a woman is being brutally beaten by a person who is close to the Trinamool Congress leaders", he said on X.

Barrackpore Police have stated that after identifying the individuals shown in the approximately two-year-old video, they have arrested the two accused.

"Police have taken note of an old video now in circulation on social media involving assault on a girl. A suo motu criminal case has been started. All legal actions against persons seen in (the) video are being taken. 2 among them are already in custody," Barrackpore Police said in a post on X.

What's In The Video?

The video clip shows several individuals holding a person's legs and hands, suspending her in the air while two others beat her with sticks. The incident allegedly took place in a club in Ariadaha, located in the North 24 Parganas district.

The clip was shared by BJP's West Bengal president, Sukanta Majumdar, who attributed the responsibility to Jayant Singh, who has been arrested.

"Absolutely appalled by the emerging video from Taltala Club, Kamarhati, showing Jayant Singh, a close associate of TMC MLA Madan Mitra, brutally attacking a girl. This heinous act under a government that claims to champion women's rights is a disgrace to humanity," Majumdar posted on X.

In response, senior TMC leader Santanu Sen demanded a forensic test of the video, claiming it was a BJP ploy to tarnish the image of West Bengal.
