Belagavi MORAL POLICING Horror: Cousins Mistaken as Interfaith Couple, Attacked, 7 Arrested

Belagavi: In a horrific incident that took place in Karnataka’s Belagavi, a group of miscreants allegedly attacked a brother-sister duo from two different faiths, assuming that they were an interfaith couple. The brother-sister duo are residents of Yamanapura on the outskirts of Belagavi. As per reports, the girl’s mother is a Hindu and her father is a Muslim. The girl’s mother and the boy’s mother are sisters. According to Belagavi Market Police, the miscreants allegedly attacked the duo and locked them up in a shed. Police suspect that seven youths committed the crime under the influence of marijuana. 

The sister had reportedly come to Belagavi along with her brother to apply for the state government's Yuva Nidhi application. The service center staff informed them that there was a server problem and to come back at 3 pm. Around 1 pm, the sister and brother were sitting on the banks of Koti Lake.

According to the complaint filed, when the brother-sister duo were sitting on the banks of Koti Lake in Belagavi, the miscreants approached them and started questioning them. Following an argument, the two were dragged and locked up in a shed.

The accused charged at the victims, questioning the brother as to why he was sitting with a girl from another community. This brother-sister duo tried to convince the miscreants that they were cousins but ended up being thrashed by them. 

Sachin-Muskaan apparently tried to call their uncle over the phone, but the miscreants switched off Sachin's phone and dragged the duo to a shed next to Koti Lake, where they were locked up and brutally thrashed.

After some time, Sachin's uncle called him again. Sachin's parents informed the APMC police station that his mobile phone was switched off. Sachin's uncle Valappa Lamani launched a search for achin-Muskaan around Koti Lake. Sachin's uncle Valappa Lamani rushed to the shed when he heard the screams.

Sachin-Muskan, who were badly injured in the attack, were rescued and taken to the district hospital by Valappa Lamani. The duo is being treated in the ICU. Valappa Lamani then informed the Market police station. 

Belagavi Market police have registered a case and launched a search for the accused. Till now, seven people have been arrested on charges of kidnapping and assaulting the duo. They have been identified as Mohammad Ayman, 27, Hussain, 22, Ateef, 22, Saif Ali, 27, Umar, 18, Rehan, 19, and Azan, 18.
