SIT To Probe Financial Irregularities At Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital After Rape-Murder Horror

The development has come after a trainee doctor was brutally raped and murdered at the RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata.

Kolkata: The Bengal government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the financial irregularities in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, in wake of a brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor inside the premises.

According to report, the SIT-led team will be led by IGP ranked officer Pranav Kumar.

Other members of the SIT are Waqar Reza, DIG Murshidabad Range, Soma Das Mitra, IG CID and DC Central Indira Mukherjee.

The SIT would probe all types of alleged financial scams since January 2021 to till date.

The development comes after the shocking rape and murder of the trainee doctor when students and doctors alleged huge financial irregularities in the RG Kar Hospital. They also alleged that former Principal Sandip Ghosh is the king pin of all those scams.

SC Takes Suo Moto Cognisance, Hearing Today

The Supreme Court will hear as the first matter today a suo motu case related to the rape and murder of a postgraduate medic at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata amid the ongoing nationwide doctors' strike over it.

A bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, which had taken cognisance of the incident, has kept the matter on top of the cause list for hearing at 10:30 am on Tuesday.

The suo motu cognisance of the case, titled "In Re: Alleged rape and murder incident of a trainee doctor in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata, and related issue", assumes significance in view of the fact that Calcutta High Court is already in action and has transferred the probe into the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
