Bhopal: Two frogs were divorced by the Om Shiv Seva Shakti Mandal group on Wednesday to stop the excessive rains in Madhya Pradesh. The same frog couple was married off two months ago to please the God of rain due to drought-like conditions in the state. The divorce took place in a temple at Indrapuri in the hopes to stop the heavy rains. The state has received an unprecedented amount of rains this year with fears over possible floods in Bhopal; it has so far set the record for highest rainfall.
'Heavy Rainfall Cause of Divorce'
The frogs were married in Karnataka in hopes that the state will receive good rainfall. In light of this belief, the frogs were dressed according to local customs and were given a ceremony. Two men could be seen holding the frogs, while a woman is seen taking the 'taali' - the sacred marriage thread from one frog and tying it around the neck of the other frog, bonding them as 'husband and wife'. The people were desperate for rains after water levels in dams started falling, the ceremony was carried out at a temple in Karnataka with a special puja. But the divorce of the frog couple that brought good rains was thought to be the solution to stop the current situation in Bhopal.

Highest Rainfall Record in Madhya Pradesh:
The State of Madhya Pradesh has been receiving excessive rains for several days. This caused the water in the Narmada river to flow above the danger mark. Six gates of the Kolar dam have been opened to release the water after it was last opened in 2016. If the rains reach above the 767 mm mark, it could break the record set in September 1961.
