Bihar: Four people die as Diarrhoea strikes Bhagalpur

Four persons died as Bihar's Bhagalpur district has been witnessing bouts of diarrhoea and vomiting, in the aftermath of the highly destructive floods

Four persons died as Bihar's Bhagalpur district has been witnessing bouts of diarrhoea and vomiting post floods. According to reports, all four casualties have been reported from Kahalgaon sub-division of the Bhagalpur district, with three of them being children. According to the Sanhoula Primary Health Centre in-charge, PK Sinha, "It remains to be ascertained what ailment afflicted the deceased children since they died within three to four hours of complaints of symptoms like diarrhoea and vomiting, which is unusual."

The deceased children have been identified as Shivani Kumari and Arjun Kumar (both aged two years) and Satyam Kumar (3) hailing from Silhan village of Sanhaula block. While the health officials also confirmed the death of a 35-year-old  who passed away in Birbanna village under Kahalgaon block of the sub-division after a severe bout of diarrhoea and vomiting.

Similar symptoms 

According to reports, similar symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting have been noticed in nearly 20 children in the village. One of the deceased's brother has also been rushed to the hospital in neighbouring Jharkhand after witnessing similar symptoms. In other cases, several other children have been sent to the adjoining state or a referral hospital in Bhagalpur town. In another case, a 55-year-old woman has also been rushed to the sub-divisional hospital, while some are being treated at private clinics.

Precautionary measures

The government and health departments are taking several precautionary measures. According to reports, an ambulance has been deployed at the Bhagalpur village in Bihar. Further, in case of emergencies, the vehicle has required medicines and ORS for administering.

Bihar floods

As many as 15 districts of Bihar, including Bhagalpur, witnessed heavy floods in the past few weeks. According to reports, the state witnessed 255 mm of rainfall between September 27 and 29. In the aftermath of the flash floods in the state, 900 people have been tested positive for dengue, including 640 cases in Patna. The Bihar government on October 3, began the fogging process in the waterlogged areas to prevent the risk of vector-borne diseases in the flood-affected regions.
