BJP MP Suresh Angadi claims Rani Channamma University in Belagavi is Karnataka's JNU, sparks row

In the recent days campus, politics across India has gained more limelight than ever before. Students backed by political party's getting into clashes in college campuses has become more or less common. With Lok Sabha polls around the corner and a lot more new voters set to cast their vote in 2019, national party's have set their eyes on the new voters.

Karnataka BJP MP Suresh Angadi's claims that Rani Channamma University in Belagavi (RCUB) is on the brink. "There is a need to mould the university by following the ideals of Rani Channamma. Some anti-social elements and anti-nationals are taking over it in Belagavi. It is very much similar to what naxalites did to JNU. Naxalites are increasing these days. Urban naxalites are a major threat to the nation's security. Youths should not get misguided." Suresh Angadi, MP, BJP

Suresh's comments has once again stirred a storm in the North Karnataka region. But the BJP MP's comments are nothing new. Earlier as well in the first week of October Suresh had made a similair remark for which senior Congress leader and former minister Satish Jarkiholi took
offense. The sugar baron reportedly went on to claim the university was being saffronised.

Also, Satish had alleged that a BJP leader who also happens to be a syndicate member tried to destroy the secular culture of the university. There also have been reports of violence allegedly by Satish Jarkiholi's supporters in (RCUB).

Political commentator Abdul Razack Khan said," Parliament member Suresh Angadi is a senior politician, it is not fair on his part to make derogatory comments like saffronising educational institutions. It is unfair of him to question whether saffronisation could not be done in India, can it be done in Pakistan. Educational institutions should be left alone. They are set to lose the upcoming by-elections for sure because of which they are trying these cheap tricks to somehow communalise and gain politically."

Educationists believe that political interference in educational institutions is not right. Although student politics is a part and parcel of popular student culture, many agree that political interference of any sort should not take place in universities.
