New Delhi: At least 2 people were killed and 31 others were injured as several coaches of the Dibrugarh Express derailed near Gonda, Uttar Pradesh on Thursday. The derailment involved Train No. 15904, which was travelling from Chandigarh to Dibrugarh. Out of the several derailed coaches, four were AC compartments that came off the tracks a few kilometres before reaching the Jhilahi railway station.
A rescue team has been sent to the site for relief operations. The cause of the derailment is yet to be ascertained.
"I had a close shave, glad to be safe. Don't worry, I am fine," said a passenger who was onboard the train. Videos from the accident site show people retrieving their luggage from the derailed coaches. One of the coaches flipped onto its side, with some passengers standing on top of it.
Dibrugarh Express Derailed: CMs Take Stock Of the Situation
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken stock of the situation. “Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath takes cognisance of the train accident in the Gonda district. He directs the officials to reach the spot immediately and expedite the relief work; gives instructions for proper treatment of the injured”, the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said in a statement.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has also been briefed about the derailment of the Dibrugarh - Chandigarh Express in Uttar Pradesh. “He is monitoring the situation and the Government of Assam is in touch with relevant authorities”, the CMO tweeted.

Kanchanjunga Express Collision
The Dibrugarh Train derailment comes nearly a month after Kanchanjunga Express and a goods train in West Bengal's Darjeeling district collided leaving at least 10 people dead and dozens others injured near New Jalpaiguri on June 17. The express train was travelling from Agartala in Tripura to Sealdah in Kolkata. The loco pilot of the goods train and two other railway staff were among the dead.
